Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital

Karbala is a holy city in Iraq about 70 miles south of Baghdad. Karbala has a population of over 1.5 million residents. More than 25 million visitors travel to the city every year for Ziyara (religious pilgrimage). Current healthcare facilities are not able to meet these demands, as hospitals and clinics lack basic equipment and supplies, along with a competent staff. Some Iraqis are able to travel abroad for medical care; however, most cannot afford to even seek services from private healthcare providers within Iraq’s borders.
Therefore, DRF decided to undertake the responsibility of providing the city of Karbala with a fully equipped and specialized hospital to meet the needs of the residents and visitors. In 2007, DRF began constructing an 8-story, 158-bed hospital in Karbala.
Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital (IHH) opened its doors to patients at its out-patient clinics on May 23, 2017. It took ten years of hard work, perseverance, and overcoming numerous challenges to complete the construction of the hospital and be able to provide the much-needed healthcare services to patients.

In March 2018, IHH started its second stage of providing in-patient services such as emergency room situations, ICU, Obstetrics/gynecology surgeries, angio-catheterization labs, GI departments including endo-colonoscopy units, coronary care units, radiology departments, diagnostics labs, ophthalmology departments and pediatrics departments.
The next stage will be to provide cardiovascular surgeries, starting the second half of 2022.
Upon completion of all stages, IHH will be able to medically serve a population over 4 million people with advanced medical care. IHH will also create between 600 to 900 jobs and over 300 indirect job opportunities. IHH currently employs over 600 doctors, nurses, technicians, and administrators.
Your donation of any size can help IHH provide much needed medical treatment to hundreds of patients every day. You may save a life by donating as little as $50, that might go towards diagnosing a disease or provide life-saving medications.
